Lower yield because of the drought

According to USDA and IGC, this year’s corn yield will be 4 percent lower than in 2014-2015, at about 970 million tons. Because of the summer drought the European Union’s corn harvest will be 57.6 million tons, 18.3 million tons less than last year. In Hungary the corn yield is expected to be 6 million tons – in 2014 it was 9 million tons. The National Council of Wine Communities (HNT) reported that this year more than 3 million hectolitres of wine will be made in Hungary, 20 percent more than last year. In the first seven months of 2015 our wine export increased by 3 percent in volume and grew 8 percent in value. In Hungary the sales price of whole chicken dropped from HUF 499 to 481, but the price of chicken breast augmented by 3 percent to HUF 1,011. Hungary imported 9 percent less pork in the January-July 2015 period; the value of pork import decreased by 13 percent.
