AstraZeneca increases quarterly profit
British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca increased its profit and revenue in the final quarter of last year on an annual basis and for the whole of last year.
According to data published on the company’s website on Tuesday, after-tax profit was $2.33 billion, or $1.50 per share, in the three months ended December, up from $1.9 billion, or 97 cents per share, a year earlier. Profit excluding one-time items rose 1 percent to $2.12 per share.
AstraZeneca’s quarterly revenue rose to $15.5 billion from $14.9 billion a year earlier.
Revenue in the company’s largest oncology drug segment rose 22 percent to $7.03 billion. Revenue from sales of cardiovascular, renal and metabolic (CVRM) medicines fell 3 percent to $3.05 billion.
Last year, AstraZeneca’s after-tax profit rose 45 percent to $10.23 billion, or $6.6 per share, with adjusted earnings up 12 percent to $9.16 per share, while revenue grew 9 percent to $58.7 billion.
