The CEO of Lidl spoke about the price reduction
A recent interview with the CEO of Lidl Germany shed light on when to expect further price reductions in the German food market, emphasizing the importance of sustainability alongside low prices.
As Lidl celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, having grown from a single store to a network of 12,000 stores across 32 countries, skyrocketing food prices due to inflation pose significant challenges for the company. The Bild newspaper asked Christian Härtnagel, CEO of Lidl Germany, about the prospects of price decreases for German consumers.
“I cannot make any predictions, but we have seen a slight downward trend in inflation rates in April, which is hopeful. While we continue negotiations regarding price increases, we do maintain our promise to customers: the best prices for the best quality,”
stated the CEO to the publication.
Härtnagel also mentioned that they have already reduced the prices of over 700 products this year. He emphasized that they do not burden customers with every price increase and continuously negotiate with their suppliers.
“Our customers are well aware of commodity markets, enabling them to assess which products warrant price increases and which ones do not. As soon as an opportunity arises, we reduce prices. Lidl was the first grocery store to lower the prices of cooking oil, cheese, and pasta,”
added the CEO. Regarding the future of Lidl Germany, Härtnagel highlighted a greater focus on digitalization and the introduction of new products to accommodate evolving consumer preferences.
