After more than a year of preparation, American Airlines has announced it will relaunch its direct Budapest–Philadelphia service in May 2026. The route, suspended during the pandemic, had been popular with both American and Hungarian travelers. Operating daily with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, the service will cater to both leisure and business passengers, strengthening Budapest’s position in the business travel market.

From May 21 to October 5, 2026, flights will operate daily between Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport. The 234-seat aircraft will depart Budapest at 11:25 a.m. local time, arriving in Philadelphia at 3:00 p.m., while return flights will depart Philadelphia at 6:50 p.m. and land in Budapest at 9:25 a.m. the following day. The aircraft will offer business, premium economy, and economy cabins, providing over 3,200 weekly seats between the two cities. Passengers will have convenient connections from Philadelphia to more than 100 destinations across North America and the Caribbean.

François Berisot, CEO of Budapest Airport, highlighted the route’s tourism and trade significance, noting the extensive preparation required to secure the return of direct North American flights. Visit Hungary CEO Olivér Csendes emphasized that data-driven promotional activities had measurably increased U.S. demand for Budapest. American Airlines Vice President José A. Freig underlined growing interest in culturally rich destinations and the strategic importance of Philadelphia as a hub.

Tickets for the 2026 summer season will be available from August 11, 2025, via American Airlines’ website, mobile app, and official travel partners.
