Everyone must strictly comply with animal health regulations
Everyone must comply with animal health regulations, because this is the only way to curb the foot-and-mouth disease virus – said Dr. Szabolcs Pásztor, the national chief veterinarian. This also includes the fact that unauthorized persons are not allowed to enter the area demarcated by the authority, and anyone who does so is committing a crime and can be punished by confinement.

The chief veterinarian explained that the eradication of the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak is taking place in an orderly manner, in accordance with the regulations. The disposal of the killed animals in the designated area is still in progress. It will take several days before the pit can be finally closed. After burial, the carcasses undergo anaerobic decomposition, breaking down into minerals and organic substances. This process involves the formation of gases and liquids. The gases are released by breaking up the soil, and the liquids are bound by absorbent materials (e.g. straw) placed between the layers. When a large number of animal carcasses decompose at the same time, these decomposition products are formed in large quantities, which is why the gases can bring some of the liquid and gases to the surface. Several tons of straw were spread at the bottom of the pit and between the animals to bind the leachate leaking from the animals. During the disposal, the surface of the animal carcasses was continuously disinfected, he added. He emphasized that the destruction area had been under guard until now, which was reinforced due to illegal entry. Successfully curbing the foot-and-mouth disease epidemic requires everyone to fully comply with the regulations. This also includes the fact that unauthorized persons are not allowed to enter the area demarcated by the authority, and anyone who violates this is committing a crime and may be punished by confinement.
