Hungarian Plain is one of the poorest region in EU
The poorest 20 regions in the EU 27 were all located in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Romania, In Hungary the Nort and South Plain and North Hungary are the most poor.
The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per
capita, expressed in terms of standard purchasing power parity (PPS)
in the 271 regions in the EU27 ranged in 2006 from 24.7 percent of
the EU average, recorded in the northeastern region of Romania, to
336 percent of the EU average, in the case of the inner London region
in the UK, Eurostat (Official Statistical Office of the European
Union) announced.
In the EU, one in six regions exceeded the 125
percent level, which represents the EU average. Ranking first there
was the inner London region (UK), with a GDP per capita standing at
336 percent of the EU average, followed by the Grand Duchy of
Luxembourg, with a GDP of 267 percent of the EU average, the Brussels
region, 233 percent, and the Hamburg region, 200 percent.
