ALDI won the “Discount Store of the Year 2022” award
ALDI Hungary applied for this year’s StarStore competition in the discount category with its store opened in Eger in April 2022. This store is the first climate-neutral property of the department store chain, the first ALDI store in the county seat, which with its nearly 1,450 square meters of sales space is also one of the largest of all ALDIs in the country. The jury of the 8th StarStore awarded ALDI the title “Discount Store of the Year”.
ALDI’s first store in Eger is characterized by unique architectural and building engineering solutions, a modern display bakery, products at consistently low prices, mostly from Hungarian sources, including suppliers from the Eger area, high-quality service, and an outstanding sales area. This is the company’s first store in the county seat of Heves, which, thanks to its 1,450 square meter sales area, has one of the largest sales areas in the country within the ALDI store network. The store can also claim national first place because, thanks to the applied cooling and heating solutions and the use of green electricity, it is the first food retail property among ALDI’s stores that can be operated in a climate-neutral manner.
One of the new features of the store is that ALDI has used an illuminated canopy with a stretched tarpaulin for the first time in its domestic network. The unique dimensions of the store allowed for a six-aisle design instead of the usual four-aisle layout. Accordingly, the fruit and vegetable superstructure was not realized in the traditional, block design, but an L-shaped furniture was installed, with an island in the middle – so the offer is even clearer, more customers can fit near the counters, and shopping is even more convenient.
