ALDI donated HUF 1.8 billion worth of food to the needy with the help of the Hungarian Food Bank Association
ALDI Hungary pays special attention to social responsibility and supporting the needy. As part of this, it has maintained an active relationship with charitable organizations for years, supporting the socially important work they do. In addition to various collaborations, the department store chain has been participating in the Christmas Fundraising of the Food Bank Association for many years.
In 2022, ALDI further expanded the number of its stores participating in daily food rescue, so that now around 82% of its network in Hungary, 133 stores, rescue and hand over food that is still suitable for human consumption to the Food Bank every day, which is delivered by volunteers of the charity organization to those in need for. Last year, the supermarket chain handed over a total of 1,729 tons of food to the Food Bank, with a gross value of HUF 1.8 billion, which is 9% higher than the amount handed over in 2021. With this donation, ALDI was one of the three largest food rescuers in terms of the amount of food saved in the entire domestic food retail network, and among the discount chains, it donated by far the largest amount to charity. During the Food Bank’s 2022 Christmas nationwide non-perishable food collection campaign, among the four participating store chains, ALDI customers collected the most food donations: 110 of the 241 tons were donated to those in need.
