DK calls for reducing VAT on basic foodstuffs to five percent
During the last month’s official inspections, the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) identified several potency-enhancing preparations that were marketed as dietary supplements, food or natural libido enhancers, but at the same time contained unlicensed pharmaceutical active ingredients – the authority told MTI on Wednesday.
They wrote that, for example, the active ingredients sildenafil, tadalafil and vardenafil can only be used in medicines produced under controlled conditions on medical prescription, their use in inappropriate conditions poses a serious health risk, therefore their presence in foods and dietary supplements is prohibited.
During the inspection, the authority also found that the prohibited active ingredients were not listed on the product labels, which constitutes misleading consumers – they added.
During the inspection, the prohibited active ingredients were detected in the dietary supplements Black Rock Gold, Dragon Power Green, El Diablo, Szuperhős Blue and Virility Max Plus.
These preparations were advertised by manufacturers as natural plant extracts and herbal dietary supplements, but laboratory tests have proven that they contain compounds with medicinal effects
– they emphasized.
According to the authority, these compounds affect the cardiovascular system and can be particularly dangerous when used in combination with other medications – such as nitrate-containing preparations.
