A total of about 5,400 applications were submitted by farmers nationwide to the call for applications supporting agri-environmental management (AKG) and organic farming (ÖKO) with the free assistance of the rural economic advisors of the National Chamber of Agriculture.

A new, five-year agri-environmental management (AKG) and organic farming (ÖKO) program was launched in 2025 within the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan, for which farmers could submit their support applications between November 25 and December 23, 2024. The preparation of the applications was assisted by the rural economic advisor network of the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) throughout the country. Of the nearly 26,000 applications received for the two calls, every fifth one, a total of 5,409, was submitted by farmers with the free assistance of NAK rural economic advisors.

Farmers submitted 19,846 applications for the new AKG program, 21% of which, nearly 4,200, with the free assistance of rural economic advisors

In Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, about 40 percent of the applications were completed with the assistance of the chamber, but this ratio was also over 30 percent in Fejér, Komárom-Esztergom, Veszprém and Zala counties. Of the 5,799 applications received nationwide for support for organic farming, more than 21 percent, 1,232, were submitted by rural economic advisors, free of charge. In Veszprém County, this ratio was more than 42 percent, but in Békés, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Fejér and Zala counties it also exceeded 30 percent. The applications are currently being processed by the Hungarian State Treasury.

The support period of the AKG and ÖKO programs is 5 years, ending on December 31, 2029

The AKG support scheme encourages farmers to undertake practices related to crop production, fruit and vineyard cultivation and grassland management for a period of 5 years with non-refundable flat-rate support that contribute to the preservation and improvement of the state of the environment. The measure promotes, among other things, the reduction of the use of fertilizers and pesticides, and the protection of soils, waters and biodiversity. The ÖKO program, similarly to the previous ones, encourages the conversion of currently conventionally cultivated areas to organic farming and the maintenance of the farming method in areas already under organic farming, also in the form of a non-refundable flat-rate subsidy.
