Air France-KLM applies to acquire minority stake in Portugal’s TAP
Air France-KLM is interested in buying a minority stake in Portuguese airline TAP SA, the company’s CEO Ben Smith told Bloomberg.
The French-Dutch company has become the first to officially announce its interest. According to previous press reports, Lufthansa and IAG are also investigating the possibility, but no official announcement has been made on their part so far.
The Portuguese state plans to sell up to 44.9 percent of TAP, and an additional 5 percent share package may be given to the company’s employees.
Offers for the 44.9 percent stake can be made until November 22. The conditions include that the buyer must have annual revenues of at least €5 billion and that TAP must retain its Lisbon headquarters.
TAP carried 16 million passengers last year, 1.6 percent more than in 2023. The company has been profitable since 2022.
