Ahold reports 11.5 percent sales increase for Q2
Ahold – the international food retailer with supermarkets in the USA and Europe – has reported consolidated net sales of €6.4 billion for the second quarter ending July 12, 2009.
Compared to the second quarter of 2008, net sales increased by 11.5 per cent.
“In the second quarter, inflation slowed considerably and we continued to see changing customer and competitor behaviour, with an increased focus on price and promotions,” the company said in a statement.
The rise in sales reflects growth of around 5.4 per cent at the company's European stores, and 1.9 percent in the US – helped by a much stronger dollar/euro exchange rate – reports foodinternational.net.
