The minister reminded that the law on Hungarian national values and Hungarian heritage adopted by the Parliament more than a decade ago was created with the aim of providing an appropriate legal framework for the identification, collection and documentation of values important to the Hungarian people as a whole. The National Pyramid of Values established by law enables us all to come close to this ideal by paying attention to our local, landscape unit, county values and national characteristics at the same time. We inherited the majority of our traditions and national values that we want to protect today from our predecessors, and our responsibility is to pass on this flame and this mission to future generations, he added.
This year, the Ministry of Agriculture issued a tender with a budget of HUF 450 million for three target areas
The first area, for which a budget of HUF 360 million is available, includes the creation of electronic publications, photo series, and films for domestic and foreign applicants, the creation of a new website, the maintenance and development of an existing website, and the realization of events. Within these, the integration, use and making visible of the symbols typical of the given village or city in the image of the settlement appears as a new initiative. In the second target area, HUF 75 million is available for the organization of contests with the participation of high school and high school students in order to strengthen their sense of identity and preserve traditions. The Ministry of Agriculture has announced the “Tradition in fashion – clothing differently” target area – for which HUF 15 million is available – for the seventh time. Our intention with this is that the traditional dress culture of the Carpathian Basin, as well as the preservation, popularization and application of its folk craft values, will become part of our holidays and everyday life – emphasized István Nagy. The head of the ministry also pointed out that last year, as in previous years, many people felt that the cause of “active traditional care” was theirs: 869 applications were submitted, in which they indicated a need for support of almost HUF 3 billion. Last year, a total of 391 applicants received support.
The competition always has permanent elements, but as in previous years, this year too there were new features
At the press conference, the prime minister’s commissioner responsible for the protection of the Hungarian way of life and our national values spoke about how, by defining the target areas and with this year’s announcement, they tried to bring the issue of Hungarians closer to the people, in line with the legislator’s intention. Zsolt V. Németh drew attention to the fact that it is now possible to register, fill in and upload data sheets and attachments on the application interface, palyazat.hungarikum.hu. It will be possible to finalize applications on May 22 at 8 a.m.
