This year, the budget for several important livestock farming titles will increase in order to further strengthen the financial security of farmers and improve animal welfare conditions. National subsidies can thus be of even greater help to livestock farmers, announced István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture.

The Minister said that, in view of the numerous difficulties threatening farming, the Ministry of Agriculture has significantly increased the budget for certain national subsidy titles among the subsidies available to livestock farmers in order to further strengthen the sector. National subsidies, together with direct subsidies, ensure production and income security, while investment subsidies encourage technological modernization. István Nagy explained that by arranging the sources of welfare support for breeding sows and fattening animals for pig farmers, the ministry will increase the national support budget by another 800 million forints in addition to the existing budget. The current 10 billion forints of animal welfare support for poultry farmers will be expanded by approximately 900 million forints. More than 2,100 dairy farmers have already received an advance payment of 8.4 billion forints of transitional national support – the maximum allowed by the European Union – which also helps to ensure stable operation and market balance. Support for beef cattle farmers will also increase, with the budget for breeding bull support increasing from 700 million to 923 million forints. These measures strengthen the financial stability of the Hungarian livestock sector and contribute to ensuring a higher level of animal welfare requirements. The goal of the Ministry of Agriculture, amidst all difficulties, is to ensure that Hungarian farmers can continue to work safely, competitively and in a predictable environment, the Minister emphasized.
