The ice damage mitigation system is an indispensable element of the farm
In the European Union, Hungary is the only country with a highly developed agricultural risk management system based on several pillars, even in a continental comparison, which can provide assistance to farmers in many situations – Minister of Agriculture István Nagy declared at the award ceremony for the best generator operators of the National Ice Damage Mitigation System, on Tuesday in Dunaharaszti.
The head of the ministry reminded that in the period between 2014-2020, the National Ice Damage Mitigation System was developed within the framework of the Rural Development Program, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and the coordination of the National Chamber of Agriculture. He explained that, with their work, the system’s operators contribute to the prevention of tens of billions of forints in damage to agriculture. The specialists protect not only agricultural values, but also residential or industrial facilities, real estate and chattels.
István Nagy also spoke about how every HUF spent on the system protects 33 HUF of production value
This is a huge achievement in preventing and mitigating economic damage and possible human tragedies. He emphasized that we know what a tragedy it is for a farmer, a family business, but also for a larger agricultural company, if the ice destroys the crop in a matter of seconds. Several months or even several years of persistent work and with it the income will be lost, moreover, there will be no food on the table due to the damage. That is why the XXI. One of the indispensable elements of Hungarian agriculture in the 20th century is the ice damage mitigation system – added the head of the agricultural ministry.
