adidas closes profitable quarter
German sportswear manufacturer adidas closed a profitable fourth quarter after a loss a year earlier, with operating profit and revenue both increasing, the company’s website says.
In the three months to the end of December, after-tax profit was 81 million euros, after a loss of 39 million euros a year earlier. Operating profit jumped to 164 million euros from 57 million euros a year earlier.
The company’s quarterly revenue rose 2 percent to 6.08 billion euros from 5.97 billion euros a year earlier. Adjusted for currency effects, revenue growth was 11 percent, with revenue from apparel sales up 20 percent, footwear up 5 percent and accessories up 7 percent.
Adidas increased its after-tax profit by 80 percent to 1.34 billion euros last year, while its operating profit rose 54 percent to 2.06 billion euros. Revenue rose 5 percent to a record 24.81 billion euros.
Adidas forecasts its operating profit to rise to 2.3 billion euros this year. The negative impact of the increase in US import tariffs is around 400 million euros.
The company announced that it has extended the contract of CEO Björn Gulden, who has held the position since 2023, until December 31, 2030.
Adidas plans to pay a dividend of 2.8 euros per share based on last year’s results, a 40 percent increase from 2 euros the previous year. The company also plans to buy back 1 billion euros of its own shares this year.
