Tesco recalls avocado oil
Tesco-Global Áruházak Zrt. has recalled the product called Tesco Finest Avocado Oil 250 ml that it distributes due to its glycidol content above the limit value – the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) informed MTI on Wednesday.
The supermarket chain took the necessary measures in cooperation with the authority, ensuring that the objectionable item was withdrawn from circulation and recalled from consumers. The authority will monitor the measures taken by the company and the further fate of the recalled products (destruction or transportation), they said.
The recall affects oil with a best-before date of February 8, 2027. NKFH asks consumers not to consume the product.
According to the information, glycidol is a cell-damaging and carcinogenic substance, which is why the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has introduced strict limits for the glycidyl fatty acid ester content of foods.
