Above-average food price increase in May
According to data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH), in May 2017 consumer prices were 2.1 percent higher on average than a year before. In comparison with May 2016, food prices increased by 2.7 percent. Sugar prices soared by 12 percent and pork’s price rose 14.8 percent. Cheese prices augmented by 7.3 percent and bread cost 4.5 percent more. Poultry became 15.7 percent cheaper.
Motor fuels turned 4.7 percent more expensive. Alcoholic drink and tobacco product prices grew by 3.9 percent. Services were provided for 1.5 percent more. The price of household energy got 0.7 percent higher. Compared with April 2017, consumer prices elevated by 0.2 percent and food prices jumped 1 percent. //
