Inflation in Austria was 4.0 percent in October, after September

The annual growth rate of consumer prices in Austria was 4.0 percent in October, the same as the previous month, according to preliminary data from the Austrian Statistical Office (Bundesanstalt Statistik Österreich – STAT).

According to preliminary data, Austrian inflation in October 2025 was 4.0 percent, the same as the previous month. The main driver of inflation continued to be the service sector, with an annual price increase of 4.6 percent, compared to a 4.7 percent increase in September. Inflation in industrial products was also milder at 1.3 percent, compared to 1.4 percent in September. In the case of food, tobacco products and alcohol, inflation accelerated, with prices rising by 3.9 percent after 3.8 percent in September. Prices rose most significantly in the energy sector: the momentum of price increases strengthened to 9.7 percent after 8.1 percent in the previous month due to higher electricity and gas prices. The so-called core inflation, which includes industrial goods and services, was 3.4 percent, compared with 3.5 percent in September, said Manuela Lenk, the head of the Austrian Statistical Office.

Consumer prices in Austria rose by 0.4 percent on a monthly basis in October, after a 0.2 percent monthly decline in September.

The annual growth rate of the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP), calculated for EU comparison purposes, accelerated to 4.0 percent in October from 3.9 percent in the previous month, and a 0.5 percent monthly increase was recorded after stagnation in the previous month.
