In August, retail sales in the euro area decreased
In August, for the third month in a row, the volume of retail trade in the euro zone decreased, the statistical office of the European Union, Eurostat, announced on Thursday.

In one year, retail sales in the EU decreased by 1.3 percent in August after a 0.7 percent decrease in July
Compared to the previous month, the volume of retail trade in the euro area decreased by 0.3 percent with a seasonal adjustment in August, following the expected 0.4 percent monthly decrease and the 0.4 percent decrease in July as well. In August, retail sales in the euro area fell for the third time in a row.
In an annual comparison, the volume of retail trade decreased by 2.0 percent in August in the euro zone instead of the expected 1.7 percent decrease. In July, the annual rate of decline in traffic was 1.2 percent.
In the European Union, the volume of retail trade decreased by 0.2 percent in August compared to the previous month, after a monthly decrease of 0.2 percent in July. Over the course of a year, retail sales in the EU decreased by 1.3 percent in August after a 0.7 percent decrease in July.
