In August, economic sentiment in the euro area improved more than expected
After a historic downturn in March-April, economic sentiment continued to improve in August, to a greater extent than expected, both in the euro area and in the European Union – according to a report released by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG EcFin) on Friday.
In August, DG EcFin’s Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) rose by 5.3 points from 87.4 points in the previous month to 87.7 points in the euro area, instead of the 85.0 points expected by markets.
In the 27 Member States of the European Union, the ESI rose by 5.0 points month-on-month to 86.9 points in August. (MTI)
