Scam in the air: fake travel cards used in the name of Wizz Air
Fraudsters are trying to deceive unsuspecting travelers by citing a promotion related to Wizz Air’s 21st birthday, the airline warned in an official statement. The perpetrators are offering fake travel cards for sale, claiming that the buyer is entitled to free flights. However, in reality, such a scheme does not exist.
Wizz Air stressed that no free travel cards were issued, and the pages, posts and comments behind such advertisements – often with images generated by artificial intelligence to suggest deceptive authenticity – are all fraudulent attempts.
The airline did offer discounted tickets in the past as part of the birthday promotion, but the promotion has now ended and no passes or travel cards were associated with it.
Wizz Air urges passengers to only check the official website and authentic social media platforms for promotions and not to fall for scams spreading online. Anyone who comes across a suspicious offer is advised to report it to customer service immediately.
The warning is particularly relevant as many people are looking for deals at the start of the travel season – and scammers are aware of this.
