More transparent prices on Airbnb: full cost system introduced globally
Airbnb is now rolling out full price pricing to all users worldwide, including service and cleaning fees during the search phase, the accommodation sharing platform announced in an official blog post.
The change is aimed at improving price comparability and improving the user experience. The new pricing system includes all fees related to the booking, excluding taxes, so guests can see exactly how much a given accommodation will cost from the start.
A global solution from regional experiences
Full price pricing is not new everywhere: this feature has been available in parts of Europe, as well as in Australia, Canada and South Korea since 2019. It was introduced in the United States and other markets in 2023 as an optional setting that users could decide whether to use. The company says 17 million guests worldwide have activated this option, a popularity that has led to the current global expansion.
What’s changing in practice?
As a result of the update, Airbnb will now default to showing full booking prices in search results – excluding taxes, which will continue to be shown separately. This will make decision-making more transparent by eliminating hidden costs, simplifying budgeting and making it easier to compare different properties.
“Guests will now see the full price of their booking everywhere – making it easier than ever to choose a place to stay that fits their budget,” Airbnb said in a statement.
