Website informs Leclerc customers about fair trade products
French supermarket chain E.Leclerc and American promotor of fair trade products Alter Eco have joined forces and established a website to inform French customers about the availability of fair trade products in French Leclerc outlets.
The website, www.laboequitable.fr also wants to increase awareness about the fair trade concept in general. Leclerc calls it “a unique initiative that should lead to more transparency in the trade of these products.” The site provides a list of fair trade projects, ran by different corporations across the globe, and explains how they are being monitored. With sales of EUR22 million (USD28.65 million) in 2008, Leclerc accounts for 18.5 percent of the fair trade market in France, according to Planet Retail.
