Price increase at poultry and milk was over average
In July 2008 the producer price level of agricultural products was 12.3% higher than in July 2007. More specifically, the price level of crops and horticultural products increased by 8.1% while that of live animals and animal products by 17.6%.
The producer price level of
agricultural products went up by 20.3% in the first seven months of
2008 compared to the same period of the previous year as a result of
the price rise of crops and horticultural products by 20.8% and
that of live animals and animal products by 19.6%.
In July 2008 the producer prices of
cereals rose by 10.5% compared to July of the previous year. As the
harvest of cereals began in this month, the prices of new produces
started to decrease following the high prices recorded in first
quarter of the year. After its peak in March (64.6 HUF/kg) the price
of wheat diminished to a value of 37.5 HUF/kg in July, which was 6.4%
lower than the price level in July last year. Meanwhile the price of
maize became lower compared to that of the beginning of the year,
though it was still 31% higher than in July of the previous year. The
sales dumping of this product is expected in the
forthcoming months.
The producer prices of potatoes went
down by 7%. In the seventh month of the year the prices of fresh
vegetables increased by 14.1% compared to July of the previous year;
within the products having a significant weight the prices of
cucumbers rose by 38.8%, while those of green peppers by 6.9% in this
period.
The producer price decrease of fruits
(10.9%) was dominantly influenced by the price movements of sour
cherry and apricots. Sour cherry prices fell by 59.1%, while apricot
prices decreased only by 3.6% compared to July of the previous year.
The price of raspberries, having relatively smaller weight, rose by
32.1%, while peach prices went down by 3.7% compared to the same
month of the previous year.
The producer price increase of live
animals (17.9%) stemmed from the price increases of poultry for
slaughter, pigs for slaughter and cattle for slaughter by 23.4%,
16.7% and 7.3%, respectively. Within the 17.2% price rise of animal
products the producer price of fresh eggs went up by 25.4% and that
of milk by 15.3% compared to July of the previous year.
In January–July 2008 the average
producer prices of cereals surged by 38.8% compared to January–July
of the previous year, as opposed to a rate of price increase of 69%
in the first six months of 2008. In the first seven months of the
year the prices of potatoes decreased by 13.7%. Fresh vegetable
prices went up by 7.7%, while fruit prices by 1.3% compared to the
corresponding period of the previous year.
The producer prices of live animals
were 16.9% higher than in January–July 2007. A significant price
increase could be observed in case of poultry for slaughter (24%), a
lower for pigs for slaughter (15.3%), while prices of cattle for
slaughter rose to a minor extent (1.8%). Compared to the first seven
months of the previous year the average producer price level of
animal products rose by 23.7%; more specifically, the producer prices
of milk and fresh eggs increased by 26.6% and 16.8%, respectively.
