The recent scandals show that countries need a well-functioning food safety authority. According to polls, the majority of the people expects the state (beside corporate control) to create environment that provides healthy and high quality food for the markets, and for the shelves of the stores.

The new food chain security management system will operate from a four hundred billion HUF budget in the next ten years – was announced at a professional conference on Thursday in Budapest. Bognár Lajos Deputy Secretary of State of the Ministry of Rural Development (VM) responsible for food chain surveillance and agri management also told that national and EU resources are available for the budget. It is planned that the final text of the strategy can be submitted to the government in the first half of the year. (by our colleague)
