This year’s Green Press Award was presented
This year, on November 9, the Green Press of the Year awards were presented for the 13th time overall. The prestigious professional recognition is awarded in four categories each year, so in addition to printing presses, paper merchants, packaging material manufacturers and paper manufacturers can also enter separately. This year, a total of 12 printing houses earned the award, recognizing that these businesses have done the most for the environment in the industry, and that they have most effectively reduced the ecological footprint of their activities within the otherwise “green” sector.
Representatives of the profession are dedicated to environmental protection to varying degrees – that’s why it’s worth recognizing those who are at the forefront with the award. However, there is no single winner of this award. The aim of the competition is to recognize outstanding, environmentally-focused corporate management activities in the paper, printing and packaging industry, to recognize the use of environmentally friendly technologies, to set an example of consciousness-raising for the development of environmental awareness, and outstanding CSR activities, Gábor Tóth, one of the awardees, pointed out in connection with the award. the executive director of the Printing and Paper Industry Association is also involved as its main patron. The expert added: the event is also an opportunity to speak out against stereotypes related to the printing and paper industry, which are still deeply rooted in public opinion.
For example, a decades-old, narrow-minded thought panel that “trees are cut down” because of paper production. The trees from which the paper of our time is made are, like Christmas trees, plants grown specifically for this purpose, on plantations, so the sentence means roughly the same as saying that wheat or corn is cut down for food production. It is thus possible, for example, that the proportion of forested areas in Europe has been increasing continuously and for a long time, while the use of paper is also increasing. Finland, also envied for its environmental protection, uses 380 kg of paper per person per year, which is more than four times the amount in Hungary.
