The European Waste Reduction Week awards were presented
The government’s goal is to increase the economic policy role of the waste management sector and to transition to a circular economy, said the Secretary of State responsible for the environment and circular economy of the Ministry of Energy (ME) on Friday in Budapest, at the presentation of the awards for the 2023 European Waste Reduction Week.
Anikó Raisz added that the participants of the European Waste Reduction Week also drew attention to the importance of the circular economy.
He pointed out that for last year’s action week, which celebrated its 15th birthday in Europe and its 10th birthday in Hungary, 284 actions were registered across the country. This put Hungary back in the forefront of Europe, ahead of, for example, Sweden, Austria and Poland.
He pointed out that the focus of the 2023 European Waste Reduction Week was on packaging, which, in addition to its useful functions, burdens the environment in ever-increasing amounts – said Anikó Raisz, adding: selective waste collection and avoiding overpackaging can greatly help with this challenge.
