Tesco’s new 100,000 square meter logistics center in Hungary has been opened
On November 27, CTP Hungary ceremoniously handed over Tesco Global Zrt.’s new 100,000 square meter logistics center near Szigetszentmiklós, which was built as part of a greenfield investment on a 60-hectare area. Tesco’s goal with the establishment of the new logistics center is to serve Hungarian customers more efficiently, optimize transportation, and significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions and environmental impact. The new logistics center will fully serve Tesco stores nationwide from March 2025.
Two refrigerated warehouses with different temperatures, a dry goods warehouse, a truck wash, vehicle repair and forklift service, a gas station, and electric car chargers will also be available in the nearly 1 kilometer long new logistics center in Szigetszentmiklós, which will serve Tesco stores and customers from next spring. The building, built with the investment of CTP Hungary, serves the needs of the department store chain with the most modern infrastructure, which reorganizes the product supply of its stores more efficiently by organizing its storage in one center and reducing the CO2 emissions resulting from transportation. As part of the investment, road development was also carried out in the area, so that the traffic of the surrounding population and the logistics center is uninterrupted and smooth.
Both the investment and the use are carried out with sustainability in mind. The complex’s energy supply is provided by modern, renewable energy, and 8,620 solar collectors with a total capacity of 3.75 MW were installed to support this. The building received an A energy rating and will also obtain BREEAM certification at the end of the year. According to the department store chain’s calculations, the re-design of transportation logistics and the service from Szigetszentmiklós will reduce CO2 emissions from transportation by 830 tons per year. A water recycling system at the truck wash ensures reduced water consumption, and the park is irrigated by its own irrigation well, so this does not burden the drinking water supply.
“We are very pleased to take possession of our new domestic logistics center, which is a huge milestone in the history of Tesco in Hungary. The retail sector has undergone significant transformation in recent years, home delivery has appeared, innovation, increasingly personalized offers, and sustainability have become particularly important. In order to serve new needs even more efficiently, we moved to this environmentally conscious logistics center equipped with the most modern technologies. With the sustainability solutions of the complex and the reduction of transportation emissions, we are also making great progress in making our operations carbon neutral by 2035. CTP has proven to be an excellent partner, as its world-class construction and real estate development technologies ensure that we continue to play a decisive role in the Hungarian retail market.”
– said Zsolt Pálinkás, CEO of Tesco Hungary.
