Drought and storm – the prospects of Hungarian wheat
Because of the drought, harvest began before the traditional date this year, especially in the southern counties. Rainy weather has no crop increasing impact, in some places it can cause deterioration.
Vancsura József, President of the National Association of Cereal Growers told that rainy weather did not mitigate the damage caused by drought, moreover the wind and the ice harmed the harvest. The price projections of wheat are standing on uncertain legs. At the moment, the purchasers offers 30-35 thosand HUF per tonne, while the producers do not want to go under the 40 thousand HUF. The question is which side will be stronger.
