Margin cap and information: the government will decide based on the experience of inspections
According to the Government Information Center, no decision has yet been made on whether mandatory information about the margin cap should be displayed in stores. The authorities will determine whether such a measure will be necessary based on the results of the first inspections, Index reports.
The decree published in the Hungarian Gazette on Tuesday details the new margin rules. According to the law, in the case of 30 basic foodstuffs, traders may apply a margin of up to 10% to the purchase price. If justified in order to protect the interests of consumers, the minister responsible for general political coordination (currently Antal Rogán) may require traders to display information about the regulations in their stores in a specific content and form.
According to the decree, if such a requirement is made, traders are obliged to display the information in a clearly visible place in stores.
Focus on inspection
The Government Information Center emphasized that the government’s primary expectation is compliance with the rules, and this will be continuously monitored. The information obligation will be decided later, based on the results of the inspections.
The detailed rules were presented by Márton Nagy, Minister of National Economy, and the list of affected products will soon be available in official announcements.
