Hungarian-American agricultural diplomatic relations are experiencing a golden age
Hungarian-American bilateral relations are getting stronger, whether it is politics, agriculture, education or trade – informed Deputy Secretary of State Oszkár Ökrös during a meeting with Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales and Louisiana Secretary of State Aurelis Skipwith Giacometto, as well as Honorary Consul Sidonia Morales.

The Deputy Secretary of State responsible for international relations and European Union Affairs said that new paths have also opened up in agricultural higher education. On May 15, the University of Debrecen and South Dakota State University signed an agreement in Debrecen that will enable the launch of the first dual (American-Hungarian) degree in agricultural engineering in Hungary and Europe. He added that we hope that a new cooperation agreement will be signed on May 30 between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Perdue University and the Hungarian University of Veterinary Medicine. Hungarian veterinary medicine has long roots, which is why it is of utmost importance for our country that the degree obtained here is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Oszkár Ökrös and Aurelia Skipwith Giacometto, Louisiana State Secretary for the Environment, agreed that both countries need well-trained, internationally experienced agricultural and animal health professionals, which is why it is gratifying that more and more agreements are being reached between Hungary and the United States.
The Deputy Secretary of State emphasized that a stable trade relationship between the United States of America and the European Union is crucial
Hungary, given its geographical position, can be an effective partner towards the European market, especially in the automotive industry. The competitiveness of our country is perfectly illustrated by the fact that 90.5 percent of the automotive products produced here are exported. Several negotiations have already taken place with the largest agricultural machinery manufacturer in North America regarding the possible establishment of a factory in Hungary.
Oszkár Ökrös invited the US delegation to the National Agricultural and Food Industry Exhibition and Fair (OMÉK) to be held in September
At the same time, Diego Morales, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the State of Indiana, assured the Deputy Secretary of State of his support: he would contact agricultural enterprises and organizations in the State of Indiana so that they could also appear at the exhibition. As the Secretary of State put it: “I want to be a bridge between the United States, and within that the State of Indiana, and Hungary,” and he saw the OMÉK as a great opportunity for Indiana products and services to reach hundreds of thousands of people.
