In April GKI’s business confidence index neared the pre-recession level
GKI’s business confidence index got close to the last March level in April 2021 There has never been this big a surge from one month to another as this April. In the business sector the most optimistic industry was building and construction, while retail and services were the least optimistic. Still, the retail confidence index also got close to the last March level. The services confidence index also increased significantly, despite the relative pessimism mentioned above.
Willingness to employ was very high in April 2021 – the last time the index reached this height was in the summer of 2019. For the third month in a row people’s fears about losing their job decreased. However, even with this improvement rate only 70 percent of last April’s plunge has been made up for. GKI’s consumer confidence index could only bring back two thirds of the last April plunge. This April consumers felt that their personal finances improved in comparison with March. //
