Eurozone inflation rose slightly in April
Eurozone inflation in April was higher than expected and unchanged from the previous month, according to a report by the European Union’s statistics office, Eurostat, on Friday.
Eurozone inflation remained at 2.2 percent in April, compared to the 2.1 percent expected in March, according to preliminary data.
Energy prices fell by 3.5 percent year-on-year in April, more than the 1.0 percent decline in March, offsetting a 3.9 percent rise in services prices after 3.5 percent in March, and a 3.0 percent rise in food, alcohol and tobacco prices after 2.9 percent in March. Core inflation excluding food and energy rose to 2.7 percent. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.6 percent in April, in line with the March increase.
