In April, annual inflation accelerated to 2.9 percent in the Czech Republic
Annual inflation in the Czech Republic accelerated to 2.9 percent in April from 2 percent in March, the Czech Statistical Office announced on Monday in Prague.
The increase in inflation expected by analysts was mainly influenced by the increase in the prices of food, alcoholic beverages and fuel. In a monthly comparison, the price increase was 0.7 percent. The prices of products rose by 1.4 percent in April, and those of services by 5.3 percent, Pavla Sedivá, director of the statistical office, pointed out at a press conference. Of the key foodstuffs, flour was 19 percent cheaper, meat 4 percent cheaper, milk 11.4 percent cheaper, and eggs 15.5 percent cheaper than a year ago. The rate of price reductions in April was lower than in the previous months, noted Pavla Sedivá. In contrast, the price of vegetables increased by 2.4 percent, that of chocolate by more than 9 percent, and that of soft drinks by 5.4 percent.
