From April 1, the manual deposit return system can start in small shops that join voluntarily
According to the plans of MOHU MOL Waste Management Zrt., from April 1, 2024, a mobile system developed by Hungarian specialists will make it possible to collect metal cans, PET bottles and bottles from smaller stores that voluntarily join the mandatory beverage packaging return system – said MOHU’s Producer Responsibility head of systems at a press conference in Budapest on Tuesday.
Szilvia Szabó reminded: from next January, a new drink packaging return system will be introduced in Hungary, all single-use glass, metal and plastic bottle drink packaging with a return mark will be returnable.
At the time of purchase, the customer pays a uniform redemption fee of HUF 50 per bottle, which he receives back after returning the bottle.
In food stores with a floor area of more than 400 square meters, it is mandatory to operate reversing machines, these are provided by MOHU Zrt. The waste management company also recommends automatic operation for stores with a floor area of between 200 and 400 square meters that voluntarily join the redemption system, but for stores under 200 square meters, manual redemption and then mobile collection of waste is more economical – said Szilvia Szabó.
