Aldi eyes city centre locations
The success of Aldi's first city centre store at the Arndale Centre in Manchester has prompted the retailer to seek out further city centre locations as it continues with its expansion plans across the UK.
Since 1992 Aldi has grown its market share from 1.5% to
2.6%, in Britain and Ireland, Aldi is opening more than 50 stores a year as
part of an ambitious plan to almost quadruple the size of the company from 400
shops at present to 1,500. Its 2006 financial results for Britain and Ireland
shows a 30% increase in sales from £1 billion to £1.3 billion.
Globally Aldi has more than 7,500 shops, including the
Trader Joe's chain in America, turning over an estimated €45 billion (£31
billion).
