Ritter Sport strengthens its international business with U.S. expansion
German chocolate maker Ritter Sport has taken a decisive step in its global growth strategy by establishing its own sales subsidiary in the United States.
The family-owned company from Waldenbuch aims to boost its presence in one of the world’s largest confectionery markets, underlining the importance of international expansion for its future.
Last year, the company’s revenue rose by 5 percent to €565 million. Exports accounted for around 60 percent of total sales. In contrast, sales in Germany slightly declined. It is temporary delivery stoppages that contributed to weaker domestic performance.
Several European markets, including Austria, Italy, Denmark, and the United Kingdom, however, have shown positive development. Russia, despite a decline, remains a significant market for Ritter Sport. However, the company is actively reducing its dependence there: it has stopped investments and advertising, and donates profits from Russian operations to humanitarian organizations.
This policy shift follows criticism Ritter Sport faced after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, when it chose not to fully withdraw from Russia unlike many other Western companies.
