Hungarian linden honey won the American honey competition
Hungarian honey has been synonymous with the best of our land for decades. Hungary has now become the third largest honey-producing country in the European Union, and the reputation of Hungarian honey continued to rise this summer. A Hungarian product was among the three best honeys in the world in the category of varietal honeys in the finals of the Black Jar Honey Contest held in the United States. But this year, the same brand also won a gold star with 3 products at the Great Taste Award competition in London.
Andrea Viszlai has a family tradition of beekeeping. The founder of the Dr Honey brand comes from the village of Rakaca in North Borsod, the family beekeeping there will always be a defining part of his life. – I’ve been beekeeping all my life, sometimes we’ve consumed so much honey that I’ve had enough of it, – says Andrea Viszlai, the heart and soul of Dr Honey, the producer of the award-winning linden honey, with a smile. – My father and I keep bees together, but despite this, my parents steered me in a different direction, so I graduated from university as a Hungarian-French teacher. Later, I worked at multiple companies, but in 2014 a milestone came in my life. That’s when we created the honey company, which mainly supplies for export. Andrea revived the past.
Great American success and three awards in the competition considered the Oscars of gastronomy
Thanks to the conscientious work, the careful keeping of the bees, the cleanliness of the untouched bee pastures and the professional veterinary supervision, Dr Honey’s honeys have occupied an extraordinary place in the quality food market for a long time. -Our products have won many international awards since 2016. This year we decided to enter a special honey competition in the USA. Entries for this competition are those who believe that their honey is really the most delicious in the world, entries were received e.g. From New Zealand, Brazil, Italy or Madagascar. To our great surprise, we were informed that we made it into the top 30 among honeys from all over the world, and that our linden honey was among the top three in the variety honey category. Moreover, this was not the only good news this summer: at the Great Taste Award announced in London at the beginning of August, we won three awards again this year. Our linden and honeydew honey, judged by an expert jury, and our Honeycocktail flavored with lyophilized raspberries are among the Great Taste 2022 award winners. So we have a total of 16 awards from London alone. – said the owner proudly.
They trust the quality of Dr Honey more and more
The professional jury of the Great Taste Awards, considered one of the world’s largest and most rigorous food tasting events, is made up of 400 independent experts in the field of gastronomy: renowned gastrocritics, Michelin-starred chefs, purchasing managers of patina stores. The London competition has been regarded as the Oscars of gastronomy for 20 years now, where applicants can nominate in various product categories. The strength of the “Black Jar International Honey Tasting Contest” is exactly what Dr Honey stands for: the purity of the honeys. – To be among the 3 finest varieties of honey in the world is a serious challenge, but this award was not without precedent, but was part of a serious process and a lot of work, not only in terms of beekeeping, but also in terms of entering the market. We can already say that the international customers have also noticed the products, and they increasingly trust the quality represented by Dr Honey. It is a good feeling that not only we say that our honeys are extraordinary, but independent experts have also judged them to be so. – added the producer of the award-winning linden honey. The breakthrough in the life of the brand came in 2014 with chestnut honey, which became their first award-winning honey. To this day, it is one of the most popular, as well as sweetdew honey.
