The Csemege cheese of Győr-Moson-Sopron county received EU protection
The European Commission registered the Csemege cheese of Győr-Moson-Sopron County on Monday – the first among the Hungarian cheeses – as a protected geographical indication. The application for EU protection was submitted by the Association of Traditional Hungarian Cheeses to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoD) in April 2016 – the ministry told MTI on Monday.

According to their information, Csemege cheese from Győr-Moson-Sopron county is traditionally produced in the territory of Western Transdanubia. Its characteristic feature is that the main maturing microflora required for ripening appears on the surface of the cheese on the fourth and fifth day of ripening and forms a pale yellow coating.
