AM: the Ministry of Agriculture is helping dairy farmers with another tender

The minister emphasized that milk producers can count on the Hungarian government in the changed market conditions. Due to overproduction and Chinese tariffs, large quantities of milk and milk products have been stuck on the EU market, which has depressed prices. As a result of the surplus, the processing industry did not sign a contract with some farmers, which causes serious difficulties for the producers involved – István Nagy is quoted as saying in the announcement. He added that the Ministry of Agriculture constantly consults with the actors of the dairy sector and examines the possibilities that help farmers adapt to the changed market conditions. In relation to the measures taken so far, he highlighted that discussions were held with retail chains to give preference to Hungarian milk. Registration was introduced for imported milk and milk products to make it more difficult for cheaper foreign products to enter, the announcement states.

The sectoral sales opportunities have been expanded by allowing educational institutions to join the kindergarten and school milk program during the school year. In addition to all of this, the ministry is issuing tenders for the purchase of milk vending machines for smallholder farmers who are struggling with sales in the absence of a contract. Within the framework of the call, it will be possible to purchase devices worth one million forints with 90 percent intensity. In addition, we will also make it possible for the operators of the market to apply for the installation of automatic milk dispensers – the minister listed, according to the announcement. István Nagy also touched on the fact that last December the state treasury started the second phase of the payment of the subsidy for dairy farming linked to production, so more than 3 thousand producers received HUF 7.5 billion. Since autumn, the amount spent on the targeted support of sector players has exceeded HUF 32 billion – they wrote. Additional help is provided by the fact that, in addition to domestic and EU subsidies, a separate credit line of HUF 50 billion is available to milk processors through the Demján Sándor Program. These measures support making the sale and purchase of milk safe and predictable for farmers. With a conscious decision, everyone can do something for farmers. Always choose Hungarian milk – emphasized the head of the agricultural ministry, according to the announcement.
