AM: help is coming from several sides for livestock farmers affected by foot-and-mouth disease
The government is committed to supporting the restart and maintenance of livestock farms affected by foot-and-mouth disease, as well as animal health developments. The newly published ministerial decree details the conditions for development subsidies, wage guarantee reimbursement, heifer rearing support and loan relief – the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) told MTI on Thursday.

According to the ministerial decree published in the Hungarian Gazette, affected livestock farmers can apply for a non-refundable subsidy of up to 50 million forints for the disease control developments required by the animal health authority as a condition for the establishment of the farm. The application for support can be submitted between September 1 and November 15 – they wrote. According to the announcement, the decree also allows the livestock farmer to apply for a non-refundable subsidy to repay the wage guarantee subsidy received from the Wage Guarantee Fund, up to the amount used in the first six months. The condition is that the livestock farmer is declared eligible for compensation under the compensation decree. The application must be submitted electronically to the Hungarian State Treasury no later than the deadline for repayment of the wage guarantee subsidy.
In addition, the decree also sets out the conditions for the non-refundable heifer rearing subsidy
This can be applied for by livestock farms that install new dairy heifers no later than February 28, 2026. The subsidy applies to the maintenance costs for the first six months following the installation, and its amount is HUF 1,197 per day per dairy heifer. Applications can also be submitted electronically to the treasury between September 1 and 30. Farmers affected by the regulation on the control of foot-and-mouth disease will be further helped by the fact that they can use the current account loan linked to the Agrár Széchenyi Card Current Account Loan Agreements on easier terms, they added.
