This year’s spring seasonal food chain inspection will start on March 2nd, ordered by András Tállai, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture (AM). Experts from the county government and district offices, under the direction of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih), will conduct inspections related to the Easter holiday season until April 6, the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) told MTI on Monday.

During the inspection period lasting more than a month, in addition to the popular Easter foods – ham, horseradish, eggs, cakes, vegetables, alcoholic beverages – egg dyes, sweet tea cakes, poultry feed, the sale of live rabbits and even plant passports will also be inspected, they wrote.

The Secretary of State highlighted in the statement that the main goal of the spring food chain inspection is to ensure that only safe foods are served to families at Easter.

To this end, official experts are inspecting alcoholic beverages sold in retail outlets (such as imported sparkling wines, prosecco) nationwide, while meat products (such as hams), cakes, horseradish, egg dyes and sweet tea cakes are inspected at the manufacturing plants. The spring seasonal inspections are made even more extensive by the inspection of egg packers.

In addition to food and its production, experts inspect laying hen feed and compliance with animal welfare regulations when selling live rabbits in markets and pet stores.

In preparation for spring gardening, inspectors are also paying increased attention to checking plant passports in nurseries and DIY stores

– András Tállai detailed according to the ministry’s statement.

Laboratory tests are also an important part of the national campaign, for which the authority takes samples of most products. Based on these, measurements of salt content, additives, pollutants, and pesticide residues will be carried out in the laboratories of Nébih, he said.
