AM: Hungary is a friend and strategic partner of Israel in the field of agriculture too
We build our agricultural relations with Israel on respect, learning and economic cooperation – stated István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, who met with Avi Dichter, the head of the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in Tel Aviv on Thursday, according to a statement sent to MTI by the Ministry of Agriculture (AM).
The information states that the minister drew attention to the fact that Israel has made the desert fertile, and therefore Hungary would like to learn from its partner in many areas. The work being done at the Volcani Institute, for example, in the fields of innovation, research and education is fantastic. Hungary is looking for cooperation opportunities that both sides can build on, whether in science or the economy. He explained that Israel has developed an exemplary food security system based on water and the expansion of agricultural areas. A program has been adopted that will increase agricultural productivity by 33 percent over 10 years, all by using treated wastewater in two-thirds of agriculture, which is being continuously increased. Hungary has been hit by drought in recent years, so it is important to learn as much as possible about irrigation and drought prevention experiences.
Hungary farms 5 million hectares, and the safe water supply of this area must be solved
That is why the irrigation technologies used in Israel are of particular importance to us, which we would like to see in Hungary as well. An important role in this process is played by the exchange of teachers, researchers, and students, so that we can get to know each other’s agricultural innovation results, which we would also like to learn and localize – the minister emphasized, according to the statement. István Nagy emphasized that the agri-food industry is a strategic sector, which is why Hungary has renewed agricultural education and reorganized the training system, which also covers the application of the latest precision technologies and the production of functional foods. The first results show that many more students are choosing agricultural higher education than before, because this profession has a serious future. During his official visit to Israel, the Minister visited the Volcani Institute, Israel’s leading agricultural research center, and the Igudan Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Ministry of Agriculture informed.
