The Minister of Agriculture highlighted that veterinary science is of great interest domestically, and the number of students in Hungarian-language training at the University of Veterinary Medicine has doubled in the past 10 years. The discipline has undergone great development, and in addition to precision and digital veterinary medicine, new therapeutic options have emerged, such as gene therapy or regenerative medicine. They play a prominent role in the implementation of ethical animal husbandry programs, in nature conservation and in epidemiology. In the latter case, thanks to the strict control of the Hungarian veterinary authority, new or long-unseen diseases were detected early and eradicated on site – added István Nagy, then thanked the veterinarians and the authority for their quick action.
According to the statement, the Minister said that the role of veterinarians is increasingly important in the food chain and safe food vertical, as well as in the fight against food waste
Since new tools need to be found to reduce waste, the university has been providing great assistance to the Ministry of Agriculture for years. The Minister highlighted the need for well-trained veterinarians, as they also help the Hungarian state administration with their innovative ideas and research, and they play a key role in increasing the competitiveness of agriculture. The Minister thanked the veterinarians for their continuous vigilance in helping to ensure safe animal husbandry, and for helping, for example, in research on sustainable antibiotic use and in the development of CAP Strategic Plan applications – the statement reads.
