State forests are the most important backdrop for forest tourism. The professional work and resources invested in the forest appear as multiple social values in people’s lives – said Péter Zambó, the State Secretary responsible for forests and land affairs of the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) at the ceremonial handover of the renovated Balatoncsicsói key house, according to the AM’s Tuesday statement.

The State Secretary explained that the former forester’s house, located in the vicinity of the Balaton Uplands Forest School, in the immediate vicinity of the National Blue Tour, has now been renovated, serving hikers seeking active recreation, contributing to preserving the relationship between the forest and people – they wrote.

Péter Zambó highlighted that state forestry companies spend approximately 4 billion forints annually on maintaining forest tourism, the recreational value of which approximately 39 billion forints. The state forestry group will cover this from its own revenue sources from sustainable forest management, without burdening the budget – the announcement states.

The state secretary emphasized that forests are much more than just a place to go hiking; they are simultaneously an economic resource, an ecological system and a space for public welfare. However, climate change is transforming the conditions in the forests’ production areas faster than traditional forest management logics were originally designed to do.

In this situation, the forestry sector’s responsibility is constantly increasing, while it is common for foresters to judge their work based on a single image, a single intervention or a single captured moment. The decades of responsibility, consideration and knowledge that lie behind the current state of the forest remain invisible to the majority of society, he underlined.

Hungary’s natural assets will not be preserved because we talk about them a lot. Not because we don’t touch them, but because we manage them sustainably, responsibly open them to society and support the systems that ensure their usability. State forestry companies are not secondary actors in this work, but supporting pillars, the state secretary concluded, according to the statement.
