AM: the Ministry of Agriculture supports the preservation of native animals
From the end of September, the Hungarian State Treasury began assessing applications received for the in situ support for native animals. This will be followed by the prompt transfer of the support amounts to farmers. This year, more than 3 billion forints are expected to be paid out under this title – informed József Viski, the State Secretary responsible for agricultural and rural development support at the Ministry of Agriculture, in a statement sent to MTI on Wednesday.
According to the statement, our genetic resources for agricultural purposes, domestic farm animal species and breeds, whose discovery, preservation and maintenance are in the common interest of all of us, are also our national heritages, parts of our identity and symbols of Hungary. The tender announced for the in situ support for native animals also serves this purpose.
The Secretary of State announced that decisions may be made in cases where administrative and on-site inspections have already been completed
The aim of both the ministry and the paying agency is for livestock farmers to access the funds awarded to them as soon as possible, thereby helping to implement sustainable agricultural activities. The non-refundable support, which helps to preserve and maintain animal breeds of high genetic value and valuable from a domestic agricultural point of view – such as Hungarian grey or Hungarian spotted cattle, buffalo, mangalica, certain horse, goat and sheep breeds, and poultry – was available to farmers who voluntarily undertake to keep endangered agricultural and breed reconstruction agricultural animal breeds in their original habitats, in their natural environment, and to implement the related obligations.
