AM State Secretary: state forests are important locations for domestic active tourism
The state forest area is one of the most important locations for domestic active tourism, the state forest farms have spent nearly HUF 40 billion on the development of recreational opportunities available here in recent years, said the state secretary responsible for forests of the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) on Thursday in Miskolc.
At the ceremonial handover of the renovated Lillafüred State Forest Railway (LÁEV), Péter Zambó emphasized that, from the amount – through various programs – nearly two hundred forest accommodations, viewpoints, eco-tourism centers, light railways and forest schools were built or modernized by the forest departments, which are used to operate the forest tourism network more than four billion forints are spent annually.
The light railway in Lillafüred was renovated for more than HUF 4.3 billion, with government support. The complete renovation of the entire railway track, service facilities and railway fittings has been completed, said the state secretary. He noted that the Lillafüred line received the most comprehensive renovation within the funds allocated by the cabinet for the development of the forest light railway.
Péter Zambó explained that the renewal of forest railways plays an important role in the development of active tourism, the passenger traffic of the twelve lines operated by the forestry company group reaches one million annually. The Lillafüredi line is one of the most popular, together with the Szilvásvárad line, they offer relaxation to nearly half of the passengers, he added.
