AM: Hungarian Presidency prioritizes consumer protection
Hungary is committed to supporting the work of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), thereby contributing to the creation of a safer, more sustainable food environment – said Márton Nobilis, State Secretary for Food Economy and Agricultural Vocational Training at the Ministry of Agriculture (AM), on Wednesday, at the 94th EFSA Advisory Forum held in Budapest, according to a ministry statement.
The State Secretary highlighted that the organization’s activities play a fundamental role in ensuring our health and quality of life. One of Hungary’s main goals during its presidency of the European Union is to prioritize consumer health protection while maintaining the competitiveness of European production.
EFSA’s risk assessment work contributes to both the safe use of pesticides and the promotion of food safety – Márton Nobilis pointed out.
He drew attention to the fact that an estimated 23 million people are affected by foodborne illnesses in Europe every year, of which 4,700 cases end in death, they wrote.
