AM: the government continues to support the closed garden developments of rural municipalities
The government continues to support the closed garden developments of rural municipalities. The call for applications with a budget of 2 billion forints, which the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) will open for rural municipalities from July for the development of closed garden areas, serves the economic, environmental and community strengthening of rural areas – announced István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, on his social media page, according to the AM’s statement on Thursday.

The minister added that in the call announced within the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan, a maximum of 50 million forints of support can be requested, with an exceptionally high support intensity of up to 95 percent. Applications can be submitted in the first round between July 2 and 15, and the entire submission period will last until October 28, 2026 – the statement says. The minister explained that 668 local governments received support in the 3rd call for proposals of the Closed Garden Program, which was previously financed exclusively from domestic sources, between 2017 and 2021, in the amount of approximately 10 billion forints. Due to the popularity of the previous program, the Ministry of Agriculture decided to announce the call again within the framework of the CAP Strategic Plan, they wrote. The aim of the call is to develop closed garden areas and promote their agricultural utilization, to preserve the closed garden lifestyle, to strengthen self-sufficiency, and to preserve the values of the rural landscape. With the EU funds, which are accompanied by 80 percent domestic financing, the affected local governments will have the opportunity to implement developments serving the accessibility of closed gardens and the drinking water supply, as well as developments serving the electricity supply, wildlife protection and wildlife management, while preserving cultural heritage and strengthening community value creation, they added. The government is supporting the development of the rural economy in a complex way, from maintaining the solvency of small and medium-sized farms, through their investments, to the resources provided to rural local governments, as it pays special attention to those local government developments that can simultaneously increase the population retention power of small settlements while preserving local values - István Nagy drew attention.
